Some shots of the team 🙂 Martin Janecky, Marek Effmert, and myself!
These pieces will be at Habatat Gallery, which opens to the public THIS weekend!
Martin Janecky is one of my inspirations. His skill level in making the human figure out of glass is incomparable. I feel honored and privileged to have been invited along for this Alaskan experience! Thank you Martin Janecky, Marek Effmert, Judy Warwick, and Andy Warwick for an incredible adventure!
A mile from Judy Warwick’s studio (where we were working); Fairbanks holds an international Ice Sculpting competition every year. They harvest some of the cleanest ice for the competition and cut them into huge ton blocks. As a glass artist, you can see why i had to visit the park several times and check out the process. It was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen! (Other than the wild live moose and Northern Lights of course!)
I was just mesmerized by the ice. ((I wonder why… almost looks like glass))
These are just some of my favorites!
The artists carving a whale.
Behind the scaffolding is an acrobat.
The whale and calf are finished!
A venus fly trap in progress.
The acrobat has made a lot of progress!
End of day 2. The hand is “gluing”.
Moving the ice blocks.
We even got to carve some logos into ice!!!
All lit up!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The venus fly trap.
The proportions astound me. It’s ice after-all!
Crazy skull sculpture.
I can’t believe it’s hand carved ICE!
Obviously you can see why I had to visit everyday to see the artists’ progress!!!
The trees are covered in ice crystals!
Where I watched the Super Bowl
A power plant keeps this river unfrozen.
Low sun in January 🙂

Sun dog! AKA Rainbow around the sun!(2pm)
We went to a Chena Hot Springs!
I saw a wild moose and her calf!
Ski jour at sunset!
The Northern Lights (behind the studio!)
While working for Martin Janecky from January-March I acquired several beautiful photos that I wanted to share of Fairbanks, Alaska in the winter! Sorry Toledo, it was much nicer in Alaska!
Hey there! Sorry I have not posted such a long time! Right now I am in Fairbanks, Alaska where I am assisting the glass master himself: Martin Janecky. He is the most incredible glass artist from the Czech Republic. This is a photo of my helping him during a class at the Toledo Museum of Art in 2012. We met at a class in Penland, NC that spring and now I am finally here assisting him with his work in Alaska! I love making my own work, however it is an amazing experience to work for someone else. You get to watch their hands create and learn from it. I will be here for two months helping Martin make his work along with another amazing glass maker, Marek Effmert, who has been assisting Martin for the last three years! I’ll post some photos next month of the pieces that he has made! In the meantime, my goals are to work hard, learn as much as possible, and enjoy the amazing Alaskan scenery!
I had new photograpghs taken of my work by my favorite photographer Doe Zurlo! This is a sneak peak photo, yet to be put onto my website! Hoping they will be up soon. http://www.CharlynReynolds.com Keep checking back!!!
I finished my sea turtle which swims over star fish. This was a commission. Here I am with the recipient (my Uncle Ricky). He is very happy! So am I!!!
